Bull Fighters Win? – Spain

If you get packed and go to visit Spain now, there are two exhilarating activities that are waiting for you. One is the bull running fiesta in Pamplona and the other is the semi-final world cup football match against Germany. The world is asking: will the bull fighter win?

There are around 3,000 festivals in Spain, among which the Bull Running seems to be the most well-known and people’s favorite. This activity originated from the early 14th century when people tried to shift the bulls from where they spent the night to the market to sell them. In order to speed the cattle, drovers used the strategy of fear and excitement. After years’ practice, it gradually becomes a public entertainment and a deep-rooted tradition. For youngsters, this is a chance to show their bravado.

At the same time, the semi-final football match between Spain and Germany is coming tonight which is broadly regarded as the final. I believe most of you will not forget that it is two years ago that Spain defeated Germany to win the European Cup. On the other hand, for the last two games with England and Argentina, Germany’s performance was perfect and they really kick the ball as a team. The two triumphs over England and Argentina have already convinced people that they are going to bring the World Cup home. Therefore, this will be a match with spectacle and excitement. If you are in Spain now, pick a bar and order a cup of beer to enjoy the game with people there.

Ban on the famous Spain’s fiesta

On July 6th, Pamplona, a city in Spain, is celebrating the famous fiesta named “Running of the Bulls.” But it has been overshadowed by the crisis in the bullring.

This festival always had an international spotlight as its bull fights are preceded by hoards, chased by bulls that perpetually end up piercing or wounding the people, en route to bloody deaths in the ring and as a result, a possible ban may be approved on this festival.

The animal rights activists, hoping for a ban, say that it is one of the most blatant forms of animal cruelty of the planet.

Across the Spain, the local governments in the small towns that subsidized the fights, cuts the budgets due to the declining tax revenue and as a result, the number of bullfights has been decreased from about 1000 in 2008 to 800 this year and also only few tourists are catching up for this event and are spending little compared to 2008.

Plenty of people were seen buying beers and red wine on the packed bars outside the bars but only few of them are buying the emblazoned T-shirts with bulls and wine skins.

In addition, the Catalonia region, where nearly 10% of the Spain’s 46 million people live, could come to an end without the bullfights, if the provincial legislators approve a ban in the mid-July.

Celebrations in Spain

Over 300 000 people thronged the streets of Madrid, some chanting “Iniesta Presidente! Iniesta Presidente!” as they watched the final between Spain and Netherlands on big screen TVs at Paseo de Recoletos Boulevard. They had seen history in the making at the final whistle as Spain became the world and European champions.

The celebrations that followed were probably the biggest that anyone could remember in the history of Spain, as fireworks lit up the sky and exuberant parties jammed the many  town squares across the nation from Zaragoza in the northeast to Seville in the southwest.

“You are an example of sportsmanship, nobility, good play and team work,” said the king. Team members then travelled to government headquarters, where they were greeted by Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, ministers and hundreds of ecstatic children invited to the event.  This win had given the elated Spaniards a break from months of economic gloom and political squabbling.

Captain Iker Casillas said the victory meant “Spain’s name will be on top of the world for the next four years.”  Spain had never before gone past the quarterfinals and this victory had brought to an end a 44-year title drought. One banner amid the masses in downtown Madrid read “Octopus Paul, Forever!” with a picture of the octopus from Germany, who had forecast Spain’s victory.

The dominated the country’s media, with newspapers paying tribute to the first Spanish team to claim football’s most prestigious trophy and television stations replaying Iniesta’s winning goal over and over.

The northern coastline of Spain

Spain is one of the most geographically diverse countries in Europe. The northern coastline of Spain surrounded by the cool Atlantic waters of the Bay of Biscay is typified by mountains and rolling green hills leading down to the coast. The weather in the region is generally good from April to October, but can be chilly in winter. The area also gets a lot of rainfall in the wintertime. Inland in the hills and mountains, snow is common in wintertime, although the coastline generally stays frost-free.

The middle belt of Spain is often flat, but the central plateau of Spain has large mountain ranges and spectacular scenery.

The eastern coast of Spain from the Costa Brava in the north down to the Costa Blanca/Costa Calida in the south is a tourist haven, with long sandy beaches and a warm, dry climate along the eastern coastline. The scenery inland is often spectacular, particularly around areas such as Murcia.

The southern coast of Spain has the best all year climate – the Costa del Sol and Costa Luz have long warm summers, and mild winters attracting tourists throughout the year for sports such as golf and , climbing, cycling and walking. Historic towns such as Malaga and Cadiz are great to visit in the cooler winter months when the tourist season is over.Car Hire Spain

Spain plans for an intense cut down of the solar PV support

The Industry Ministry has confirmed that the Spanish government is in plans to reduce the prices for the new solar photovoltaic (PV) system for up to 45%, on Sunday, besides bringing down the support for the small roof based systems by 5% and for the large roof based systems by 25%.

The planned proposals for the purpose of consultations have been sent to the Spain’s energy regulator and are reflecting the similar cut downs that are declared in Germany, recently.

The government and the energy firms after making discussions has announced the move over the scale of the cuts that were apparently broke down in the last week.

The industry insiders have cautioned that the deep cut downs will lead to the damage of the Spain’s flourishing solar industry’s development. But the government has argued that with the cut down of the cost of the solar panels, it will be capable to handle with the reduced support levels.

Proposals were even made that the ministers, in order to control the growing Spanish energy bills, can put in the retroactive cuts and lessen the incentive costs for the present solar PV installations.

The level of the cuts will strike a substantial contrast with the smaller than the expected cuts to incentives for wind and the solar thermal scheme, that the government has declared in the previous month.

The deal in relative to the modest cuts to subsidies will be phased in over 3 years.
